My wife and I needed a way to keep our twin toddlers out of the kitchen, since its a bit dangerous in there for them. The walkway into the kitchen is exactly 6 feet wide and I thought it would be a challenge to find a gate wide enough for the opening. Thankfully, this Summer Infant gate worked perfectly for us. First off, don't be disappointed if when you assemble the gate with all the extensions, it is not 6ft wide, however, the screws that attach to the side that connect to the wall supports stick out far enough and provide plenty of support once it's installed. From un-boxing to installation, the process took about 15-20 minutes. The instructions say you could install this to drywall, but I would not recommend that unless the gate isn't going to be "tested," meaning if will get yanked & pulled, because it will come right out of the drywall. For this gate to work at its maximum width, you must install the mounts into studs or a wood surface. Thankfully, the opening I installed in was wood. The true test was going to be my son or daughter pulling and yanking on the gate like good toddler do, and I'm happy to report that while there is considerable "give" in the center of the gate, the gate did pass the ultimate toddler test and withstood their onslaught. The door does open both ways but does NOT auto close. However, you can close it and lock it with one hand and it is quite sturdy. Highly recommended for larger openings.

I spent some time reviewing different gates before purchasing this one. This gate was for my daughter's apartment, for my now 6-month old grand-daughter. I cannot comment about her interactions with the gate, as she is just starting to crawl and has not attempted a jail-break yet. Note the color is not white, but an off-white, light beige.

The gate was very easy to install (please note, however, that I am an electirican and serve as handy-man for everyone I know). I would still say that installation is easy for just about anyone. Temporary removal of the gate is a breeze, it just pops out and back into the mounts. This does not make it less secure, it will not just accidentally fall out of place either. My daughter likes it and said she thinks it looks good too. The construction is solid, this thing looks like it is built to last. Unlike reviews for other gates I read this is highly adjustable so the bolts on the ends should not have to reach far and will not leave a gap. The gate operates with one hand and swings both ways. It does not automatically swing closed.

I really like this gate, and would purchase it again. I am an over-protective grandpa and it meets my standards. It is easy to operate, install, remove and it looks good as well.

We installed the Center Gateway plus two extensions. The gate has been wonderful. We liked that it's pressure-mounted, so no need to permanently screw anything into the walls. It's sturdy enough to stop my very active 11-month old, yet it's easy enough for my 3 1/2 year old to operate himself. The only drawback is there's a bar that runs along the floor, which is required for these pressure-mounted gates. Some people trip on the bar when they first come over.

If you are looking for the gate in the picture, or the "gateway" of the product name, don't look here. This is not a gateway, it is just an extension for the gateway that is pictured. You can get a gateway plus two extensions for about the same price is this falsely advertised product. I recommend reading the fine print on this seller if you are considering a purchase from them because they won't take returns for any reason. I recommend purchasing from a seller who will support their products and represent them honestly. You won't find that here.

We love this gate to keep out 10 month old son from climbing or falling on our double hearth. We bought extenders to frame in such a huge area. It looks great and is safe! When we want to build fires in the winter, it will even be more convenient than the rubber edging placed along brick edging that we were concerned wouldn't come off easily and without leaving goo. We love it!

Great Product and very easy to use. - D. Aguiar -
This is a very easy product to use. My only problem with it is that they dont include any 8 inch sections to make custom fitting this fence difficult. It would be nice if the sections could be changed in size. Otherwise, this is a strong, good looking product that my 16 month old has yet to defeat.


KidCo Hearth Gate - Ramona P. -
I really like using this hearth gate. There are extensions that you can buy so that it can wrap around any design. The gate door cant be opened by my young child. Not only is it functional but it also looks classy. I think it's great and would definitely recommend it to parents with young children.

Pain in the butt to install - G. Kwan -
We first ordered the gate based on the photo that was shown because it was exactly what we had. I soon realized that an extension kit was required AND special spindal clamp. It took my husband and his friend 45 minutes to install the gate. I'm not sure I would purchase this again but there really aren't too many options for bottom of the stairs.
